Youth Demand A Greater Role In Climate Action Young And Future Generations Day At COP22

Written by | November 13, 2016 | 0
At the UN Climate Change Conference in Marrakech (COP22), young people have been vocally pushing for more climate ambition and for a stronger role of youth in helping to shape climate policies and implementing the Paris Climate Change Agreement and the new Sustainable Development Goals. The United Nations recognizes the need to involve young people in the UN climate talks, given that their futures are threatened by the impacts of climate change such as greater incidences of drought and flooding, and that young people profit the most from the transition to low carbon and resilience. Addressing youth on Young and Future Generations day at COP22, the Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Patricia Espinosa said: Young people want to be involved in the process, and

Dakar (AFP) – After a delayed start, a former British policeman aiming to swim across the Atlantic finally set off Sunday from Senegal, bound for Brazil more than 3,000 km away. “Here we go,” said 38-year-old Ben Hooper, as he tugged on his goggles and said goodbye to loved ones and supporters on the beach of an hotel in Hann Bay, in the east of Dakar. “To the whole world thank you very much for your support,” he said, before striding into the waves at the start of the record-breaking attempt, expected to take nearly five months. Hooper was supposed to leave Africa’s western coast from Dakar, Senegal at the start of November but delayed his departure due to a problem with the support vessel. He postponed it again several times, until actually setting off

Written by | November 13, 2016 | 0
Johannesburg (AFP) – Egypt avenged a humiliating World Cup defeat by Ghana three years ago with a 2-0 victory Sunday in a 2018 African Group E qualifier before an 85,000 crowd in Alexandria. Ghana triumphed 6-1 in the first leg of a 2014 World Cup play-off to set up an aggregate victory that prolonged the agony of Egypt, who have not competed at the finals since 1990. Mohamed Salah converted a 43rd-minute penalty amid an electric atmosphere at the Borg El Arab Stadium and Abdallah Saied doubled the lead four minutes from time with a close-range shot. Ghana, seeking to qualify for a fourth consecutive World Cup, dominated second-half possession without finding a way past 43-year-old goalkeeper Essam El Hadary. El Hadary is the lone survivor of the national team of the previous decade that
