Successful Operation Vanguard Activities Lead To Over 1,000 Arrests

More than 1,000 individuals engaged in illegal mining have been arrested between August 2017 and May 2018 after the government deployed a task force to end the destructive practice in the country. According to Lands and Natural Resources Minister, John Peter Amewu, hundreds of excavators have also been confiscated. Again, more than 1,500 floating platforms commonly known as ‘changfas’ used by the illegal miners on water bodies were also ceased and destroyed by the combined team of military cum police personnel — Operation Vanguard. The People Of Mbease Nsuta in the Prestea Huni-Vallley Municipality of Western Region are complaining bitterly about ghost hunting them in their community. Kwasi Nyantakyi President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwasi Nyantakyi, yesterday landed in the hands of personnel of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service at the Kotoka International Airport minutes after his arrival from Morocco on board Ethiopian Airline. The Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Anthony Karbo has been invited by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for questioning. Karbo’s invitation is in connection with the CID’s ongoing investigations into allegations of fraud against Kwesi Nyantakyi by President Akufo-Addo. A three-year-old girl at Keta in the Volta Region, Eyram Agbanyo, diagnosed with a hole-in-heart condition, has been unable to get corrective surgery because donations collected by a radio station was not given to her mother. In August 2017, Jubilee FM, a Keta based radio station, used its medium to appeal for funds for little Eyram. A total of GHc 13, 000 was raised for her treatment. However, almost ten months later, the management of Jubilee FM has still not handed the money over to the child’s mother. A collaboration between police and telecom operator MTN, has led to the arrest of a 26-year-old man who kidnapped two children from the KNUST Primary School on Friday. Collins James Kodah, a native of Navrongo in the Upper East Region, was arrested at his Asante Akyem Agogo hideout with the two children he kidnapped from the school on Friday. He had earlier demanded a ransom from the parents before releasing the children aged 7 and 9. But a swift intervention from police with the support of MTN, led to the arrest of the suspect and subsequent release of the children. The two brothers, could not be traced after school on Friday.
