Mother Fights JUBILEE FM Following ‘Missing’ Donated Surgery Cash

A three-year-old girl at Keta in the Volta Region, Eyram Agbanyo, diagnosed with a hole-in-heart condition, has been unable to get corrective surgery because donations collected by a radio station was not given to her mother. In August 2017, Jubilee FM, a Keta based radio station, used its medium to appeal for funds for little Eyram. A total of GHc 13, 000 was raised for her treatment. However, almost ten months later, the management of Jubilee FM has still not handed the money over to the child’s mother. The mother, Fortune Amey, in a Citi News interview said only GHc1,500 of the amounts realised had been given to her daughter continues to suffer. ‘Halt The Rise, Beat Diabetes’. That was the theme for World Diabetes Day held on April, 2016 organized by the WHO (World Health Organization). A collaboration between police and telecom operator MTN, has led to the arrest of a 26-year-old man who kidnapped two children from the KNUST Primary School on Friday. Collins James Kodah, a native of Navrongo in the Upper East Region, was arrested at his Asante Akyem Agogo hideout with the two children he kidnapped from the school on Friday. He had earlier demanded a ransom from the parents before releasing the children aged 7 and 9. But a swift intervention from police with the support of MTN, led to the arrest of the suspect and subsequent release of the children. The two brothers, could not be traced after school on Friday. Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Otiko Afisah Djaba, has challenged Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and officers at the Social Welfare Department to take legal action against parents who compel their children to engage in all forms of child labour. The Minerals Commission has warned it would be forced to take drastic action against homeowners who build very close to quarry sites, in a bid to prevent disasters and deaths. The warning comes after a blast at a quarry site in Budumbram in the Central Region, left two persons injured. The people of Manso Edubiaso in the Amansie West district of Ashanti region were thrown into a melancholic mood on Wednesday when the body of a young woman, together with her four year old son was found in an abandoned pit. A group of young men who were contracted to enter the deep pit, which has been abandoned by illegal miners several months to bring out the corpses came out unable to breath well due to the decomposing nature.
